Hey everyone! I’m an American in Germany and just rented a 2020 Audi A3. I noticed the battery indicator acting strange while driving. This morning was below freezing, but it’s warmer now. Is this normal, or should I be worried?
It’s a plug-in hybrid. The HV battery might be dead. It can charge slowly while you drive or you can plug it in for a better charge.

So it’s not a problem then? I just won’t be able to drive fully electric?
@Teal
Exactly! Just keep an eye on it. It might charge a little as it warms up.
Sounds like the battery is empty. It should still drive fine with gas, right?

Yeah, I think so! Thanks for clarifying.
No worries! This car can still drive a good distance on gas alone. The battery just needs a charge.

Gotcha! I might plug it in later, but it’s a rental, so no pressure.
You’re good! Just know that the battery will charge a bit when braking too.

Thanks! I didn’t know that. I’ll pay attention to it.
Do you charge it every day? If so, how much do you usually charge?

I charge mine about once a week and usually to 100%. I mainly drive in EV mode around the city.

Nice! I’ll try to keep that in mind.
