In recent months, the Audi RS5 Avant has been seen undergoing testing as it gears up to succeed the RS4, which will soon transition to an all-electric model. Since the RS4 was previously offered as both a sedan and a station wagon, it was easy to assume the RS5 would also come in sedan form. Our first glimpse of the prototype confirms that the sedan body style is sticking around, though with a new badge.
This model will directly replace the RS5 Sportback. While it looks more like a conventional sedan, the rear still opens with a lift back design, similar to the outgoing Sportback.
Almost Ready for Production
The prototype looks nearly finished, especially at the front, where a large grille with diamond-shaped mesh sits between two tall side intakes. We can also spot LiDAR/radar sensors and new, sharper headlights that align with the Singleframe grille. The edges of the lights are rounder compared to the current model, which has faux intake grilles.
The mirrors and wheels look production-ready, as do the front fenders, which feature vents similar to those on the updated RS3. The flush door handles are a sleek upgrade, but the rear arches seem more pronounced than the front ones. While we’d love to see this bold design, make it to production, some of the camouflage suggests changes might still come.
The car is anticipated to reach North American dealerships by fall 2025 as a 2026 model, with a potential earlier release in Europe.
