Bluetooth music in B8.5 S5... really quiet?

This might be an insanely stupid question. I test drove a B8.5 S5 today with the B&O sound system. Radio volume was plenty loud and went way louder than I’d ever want to listen to anything, but when switching to playing music off of my phone via Bluetooth, it was very quiet. Full volume was quiet enough to easily have a conversation over with my mother if she was in the car with me. Here’s why this might be the dumbest question ever: I have a Mk6 VW GTI and when Bluetooth is playing the music, the car takes over the volume control from my phone and they are not independent. Volume buttons on my phone do nothing. I realize now I didn’t even think to check if my phone’s volume was very low during the test drive, because I’m just not used to that. My dad’s BMW takes over too. I searched everything in the MMI to find a max volume adjustment in the S5 like there is in my GTI but couldn’t find anything. Is the Bluetooth volume just pathetically quiet in these cars, or am I just a dumbass and didn’t realize the phone volume needs to be turned up independently from the car volume? Loved the car if anyone was wondering. Clutch bite-point is too low and the pedal is heavier than it should be considering how weak the clutches are in these cars, but it drove great and I enjoyed it a lot. If this volume issue is just how these cars are though, I don’t think I can live with that. EDIT: I now know I’m just an idiot and phone volume needs to be adjusted.

Dude, I had the same issue with my Audi. The Bluetooth volume was super low until I cranked up my phone’s volume. Did you try that?

Yeah, I’m glad it’s not just me. I didn’t even think to check my phone volume during the test drive.

I had this problem too… turned out my phone’s volume was super low. Once I fixed that, it was fine.

What if the phone volume is maxed out but it’s still quiet? Should I check something else?

@Blair
Maybe check if there’s a setting in the car’s audio menu that controls Bluetooth volume? That helped me.

I thought it was just me being dumb too. It’s good to know it’s a common thing with these cars.

Right? It’s just annoying when you think it’s a bigger issue. Glad it’s an easy fix.

I really loved the B8.5 S5 too. The driving experience is awesome, but I was worried about the volume issues.

Yeah, it’s a great car overall. I just need to figure out this volume thing before I commit.

So, just to clarify, you have to adjust the phone volume and then it should be fine? That’s kinda weird.

Yeah, exactly. It’s just different than what you’d expect. But once you know, it’s easy.

It’s totally a learning curve. Just one of those quirks with the system, I guess.
