Buy my first nice car and then this happens…

Stopped at a red light and got absolutely smashed. Guy must have been on his phone because he hit us full speed - no attempt to brake or anything. Wife and 2 toddlers in the car and thankfully no injuries other than a sore back for me. The Q5 performed exceptionally well and totaled the other vehicle.

His insurance is covering 100% - estimated $13k in damages and 3-4 weeks to fix.

Sorry this happened. Go see a doctor about your back. Spinal injuries can show up and/or become worse weeks after an accident. Keep all your receipts from the Dr and have their insurance pay it.

Yes!!! Especially for the toddlers!!

Second this. Same happened with us 3 years ago. Spouse still coping with effects.

Look up a diminished value claim and file that as well.

Time for an upgrade.

Your insurance will still go up regardless of fault, yay modern insurance policies. You should have not been there when that guy was driving recklessly. Make sure to file a diminished value claim, your car just lost 10k in value. Pay the $250-$400 and get an appraisal from a 3rd party, it’ll make the ‘negotiation’ go much faster. I’m glad you and your family are unharmed and the car did its job.

Curious, how would one do the diminished value claim against someone with no insurance? And is it worth it if the accident is extremely minor?

Full on collision and barely scratches more than your bumper, wow.

Similar thing happened to me. Had my S4 for 5 weeks then some lady rear-ended me at a red light. Original estimate was 15k, then the shop came back and added on another 13k. Make sure you take it to a reputable place. I took mine to the dealership to make sure everything was done right. Good luck!

So sorry for you and the fam! Definitely see a doctor and keep all receipts. In my experience, sore necks either go away or get way worse. Really hoping for you they don’t total the car, it took care of the kiddos so well.

And now you will always watch your rear view mirror when you’re at a stop. It’s a good habit to pick up.

Hope you’re doing okay and things turn out well for you. She looked out for you!

That’s Audi safety. Thankfully it protected you. Losing cars suck but they are willing to sacrifice their life for yours. That’s their job tho it may hurt.
