Hello all, a friend of mine wants to buy his first car and he has chosen an A4 B8 Avant. I have read that there were models with the TFSI engine that had timing chain problems. Is it true that this problem was fixed with the 2011 facelift? Is there anything else we should look out for with this model? Thank you all in advance.
I had a 2012 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro, and I can tell you that the CAEB engine has this timing chain issue.
We are only looking for the 1.8 L model, right? I’ve heard those should be safe, but they do have timing chain tensioner issues and sometimes sensor malfunctions. I’ve seen reports of the engine stopping on the highway and then being fine after a restart.
The CJEB engine should be Gen 3, which has less issues overall. I think you’ll find it to be more reliable than earlier models.
Just to add, it’s always smart to get a pre-purchase inspection. Even if the model seems reliable, you never know what previous owners might have neglected.
Also, consider the cost of parts and repairs. Audis can be pricey to maintain, so it’s worth thinking about that too.
