Hello, I am curious about something. For all you 2018 S4/5, SQ5, A6, and even 2.9T owners who have experienced rocker arm failures, how much did it cost to fix? Was it a new engine, just arm replacement, or did other things need to be replaced? Did Audi handle it, or was it an independent mechanic? I’d love to hear your experiences.
Was gonna be like 7k a couple years ago at an Audi dealer. Luckily Audi covered it. But after a year, the same issue started happening again, so I got rid of it after that.
I was thinking about moving from a B8.5 to a B9 SQ5, but my local Indy shop warned me about the rocker arm issue. They had one in the shop and it was a $6.5k job.

Wow, that’s a lot. Did they say what exactly went wrong with it?
@Bailey
They didn’t go into detail, but it sounded like a common issue. Just made me rethink my options.
I’ve heard about that too. I’d be worried about it if I owned one of those models. Have you thought about getting an extended warranty?

I haven’t really considered it, but maybe I should look into it. What’s your take on extended warranties?
@Teo
I think they can be worth it if you plan to keep the car for a while, especially with issues like this popping up.
Good to know about the costs. It’s crazy how much some repairs can be. Makes you think twice about which model to choose.

For sure, it really makes you reconsider, especially when you hear about these huge bills.
Has anyone had a positive experience with a mechanic? I feel like I only hear horror stories.

I found a good Indy shop for my last service, they were honest about what I needed. I’d recommend checking local reviews.
