I am thinking about acquiring a C6 S6 to experience what it’s like to own a V10 before they go extinct. Given my fondness for Audi, this appears to be the most economical way to get into a V10 that may be reasonably reliable, hopefully. It would not be my everyday driver, but rather my third car, so I wouldn’t have to rely on it for transportation. Aside from the maintenance costs associated with a V10, intake manifold difficulties, and carbon buildup, is there anything else I should be concerned about? I understand that it will not be a cheap endeavor in either case, but I would like to hear about all the catastrophic problems that can occur with this car. Does anyone here currently own one and would share their experience? Thank you.
In advance, I must state that I do not own a V10, but I am a member of an Audi club that includes many of them. The car is well-loved generally, but you must be a mechanic or know someone who is. And if you want an inexpensive and reliable car, this vehicle with this engine is your last option. Overall, it’s a great and enjoyable car; it’s just difficult to keep up.
Yeah, I don’t dislike engine maintenance, and I don’t expect it to be inexpensive. But I’m attempting to figure out if there are any serious difficulties that aren’t part of maintenance and upkeep. The intake manifold, for example, can fail and necessitate engine replacement. I don’t expect it to be cheap to maintain, but I also don’t want to be paying the entire car’s worth in work to make major repairs for common failures that aren’t related to maintenance. So just trying to understand all the major pitfalls before deciding on what to do.
