I have been looking into this and can’t seem to find a consensus.
B9 A4 ALLROAD, essentially, has been really reliable from 2017 onward! Additionally, the EA888 gen 3 engine has essentially worked out all of its quirks.
Anything that uses the EA888 generation 3 ought to endure for a long time.
Not to mention as well that just a stage 1 tune will turn the 2 L turbo into a torque Beast
My EA888 Generation 2 at Stage 1 has been with me for 90k miles. It is currently approaching 190k miles, and I have had no problems up until this point, save for a tiny oil leak around the camp cradle.
What do you think about having a tune making it unreliable?
Some manufacturers claim that new synthetic oil can last for 12,000 miles before needing to be changed, but I strongly disagree, especially for cars with turbo engines. The increased heat and overall higher temperatures make it necessary to change the oil more frequently. I change my oil every 4,500 to 5,500 miles. For German-engineered cars like Audi, I recommend using Liqui Moly oil, which has a higher temperature range than 90% of synthetic oils available at most stores. For high-mileage cars, Liqui Moly also offers oil with dye to help identify oil leaks. This recommendation is even more important for cars with turbo engines, as they can cause oil to degrade more quickly.
I have a third-generation car with less than 40,000 miles. I have found conflicting information about its reliability, but I am a DIY mechanic and not too concerned. Looking forward to seeing how it goes and how many Saturdays I will spend in my garage.
Any Audi A3 from 2015 onward, in my opinion, is the most dependable. It features a gen 3 ea888 motor and is part of the mqb platform along with the VW Golf and Audi TT. With over 100,000 miles on it, my 2015 Audi A3 has never experienced a check engine light. Because it has a lot of parts in common with a golf gti, maintenance is also reasonably priced. A q3 is a good option if you require something larger. Get a TT if size isn’t a concern and a two-seater would suffice; you won’t regret it.
I have found a couple of 2015+ A3s with 100-130k miles. What mileage do you think would be too high to buy?
It truly depends on the maintenance history, but there isn’t a mileage that I would consider excessive. The car should be good for a while as long as the water pump and tensioner are replaced, along with the timing chain at about 100,000 miles. A well-maintained A3 with only one owner and 150k miles is preferable to an A3 with five owners and 100k miles without any maintenance history. Together with a diesel, the A3 also has a 1.8-liter gas engine. In terms of dependability and upkeep, the 1.8 and 2.0 motors are essentially the same. Additionally, there is a diesel version that is extremely dependable but fails emissions testing.
Audi 80 and Audi 100. They were built like tanks and well rust proofed.
Loved my B3s and love both of my C4s. Absolute tanks. Very well built.
What does the Ur before the S4 in your flair mean?
“Original” means just like the UrQuattro. The C4s were the first S4s.
I am looking at either an A3, A4 or possibly an A6. I was looking at a 2012 A6 with only 62k miles but I might switch gears to an A3 after learning all this
What did you end up with? In the same boat you were in… love Audi but don’t want a nightmare of reliability
