I’m checking out an S5 B8.5 and noticed a couple of spots where buttons or controls should be, but they’re not there. Can anyone tell me what functions might be missing? Are these normal blank spots, or is it possible this car had some features removed?

Think the left is normally the View/Back button and the right is nav /*.

Exactly. Also depends on the spec. Some models don’t have the nav button if they weren’t equipped with the MMI Navigation Plus package. If it’s blank, that’s likely why.
@Perrin
Makes sense! I have a basic trim without nav, so that explains it. Thanks for confirming.
@Perrin
So, if the button spots are blank, can I retrofit them if I want to add those features later? Or am I stuck with it as-is?

You could technically retrofit, but it’s not just about swapping out buttons. You’d need the right modules, wiring, and possibly coding. Honestly, it’s not cheap or easy, especially with MMI systems. Might be better to live with it or upgrade to a higher trim model.
@Perrin
This is spot on. Retrofitting MMI Navigation Plus is a pain, especially since you’ll need to replace the entire control unit. Better to wait for a model that already has the features.

It can also vary by market. In Europe, you might see different options even in the same model year. Where’s your S5 from?
@Blair
It’s a US model. I didn’t realize market differences could affect the layout that much!
Sometimes the blank spots are just for aesthetics. Audi uses the same layout across different models, so not every button is functional in all trims.

Yep, my A6 has a few blank spaces too. It threw me off when I first got the car.
@Wolf
Haha, same here. I guess it’s better than a totally different design for each model. Easier for them to produce.
If you’re missing a dynamic mode button, it could be that the car isn’t equipped with Audi Drive Select. That would explain a blank spot there.

I actually noticed that too. No dynamic mode. Guess that would make sense.
