You ask: Are AUDIs Safe?

This A3 saved my life. A Seat Leon hit my A3 in an emergency braking situation. Audi PreSense did its thing and I just walked away without a bruise. The A3 is totaled, but I trust this car; I’ll get another one.

Glad to see you walking out safe and sound! Audi safety is top notch!

I lost my B8 S4 in June 2024. I was rear-ended by a guy in a Jeep SUV at about 50-60 mph. My S4 took a lot of damage, but the passenger compartment was completely intact. I had some whiplash and a couple of bruises from the seat belt, but I walked away.

It’s as safe as the majority of other modern cars on the market… that’s what safety regulations are for.

Well, yes, but people are irrational and testing things by ourselves is what gives us additional trust. Oh, and that is basically why I own my second C7 Allroad in a row.

Maybe not for long. [Link to article about automatic emergency braking rule]

Current AEBs aren’t really designed to prevent collisions. They’re more of an effort to reduce the impact. AEB is just a knee-jerk effect mitigation caused by distracted driving.

All modern vehicles are roughly the same amount of safe. People are used to solid front bumper vehicles from 40 years ago.

Very safe, countless times in my country high-end cars have survivors out of crazy crashes where you can barely recognize the car from outside.

What did the PreSense do in this situation?

I’d assume it started braking in time, but the driver behind didn’t notice quick enough. I’ve noticed that PreSense often detects cars in front decelerating hard before I do.

I had a similar experience with an 8-month-old Q8 e-tron that was totaled. All occupants in both cars walked away unscathed. I credit the car with sparing us from injury or worse.

Yep, my Audi saved me too. [Link to Imgur]

Have they found your torso yet?

That poor beast was eviscerated in its effort to save your life. Similar to my uncle’s family, who walked away from a mangled Volvo.

Enjoying the wheelchair life from now on.

Damn poverty spec wheels. As an American, I’d like Europeans to post more about low-optioned luxury cars; it’s very interesting.

I know people will say this is a result of modern safety regulations. But in my experience, German cars have always felt safer at higher speeds.

SEAT is also part of VAG. The Leon is based on a VW Golf though; it’s the Exeo that’s a B7 A4.
