I just got an update from my mechanic about my car. They said the battery needs replacing for $510.58, which I think is a total scam. The big issue is the failed Clutch Assembly, which they want $5,396.22 to replace. That brings my total to $6,205.08! Why the hell is it so expensive to replace the clutch assembly? Also, what do you all think about doing a 2.7T swap instead? Seems like it might be at least half the cost. Thanks in advance.
You could buy a nice aftermarket clutch kit with pressure plate for like $500. It takes some decent mechanical know-how, but if you have time and space, you could tackle it yourself with a friend who’s done a clutch before. But you might be pretty mechanical considering you’re eyeing a 2.7T swap haha. Also, don’t pay that for the battery replacement—it’s an easy DIY job.
Oh yeah, the battery is a scam lol. It got crazy cold here while my car sat in my work parking lot, and the battery died. I laughed when he said $500! I can most definitely change a battery myself. I’m not crazy mechanically inclined, but I’m feeling inspired. I can’t afford to dump $6000 into a car I didn’t even pay $6000 for.
Anyone that tells you it’s going to cost $500 to replace a battery is just trying to take advantage of you. I’d say thanks but no thanks and get your car out of there. Also, there’s no way it’ll cost $2500 for a 2.7T swap. You’re in fantasy land if you think that! Start by getting a realistic repair quote somewhere else, then go from there. And replace your own battery—costs around $150 at AutoZone and takes less than an hour!
