Could I fix my mechatronic unit myself?

I have a 2015 Audi A3 and found out that the mechatronic unit is bad. The Audi dealership wants to charge me $4k, but I found the unit itself for around $850. Is this something I could do myself? Any advice?

The mechatronic unit is a slave immobilizer unit, so you’ll need ODIS online to link it to the car afterward.

So, is it impossible to do without that? What if I get a used one?

@Tully
You can use a used one, but it must have the same part number to pass SVM. Otherwise, a tuner would need to disable the immobilizer.

Honestly, if you’re handy with cars, you might manage it. Just make sure you have the right tools and info.

I’d recommend watching some YouTube tutorials first. It could save you a lot of headaches down the line.

If you’re not experienced with coding, it might be tricky. Consider getting a friend who knows their stuff to help.

Definitely worth a shot if you’re up for it! Just make sure you’re prepared for the coding part afterward.
