DRC issue prevalence for the B9.5 RS5

Hi all, I’m wondering about buying a B9.5 RS5 but have heard some things about DRC issues, like value problems, leaks, and total failure. I’ve also read that if one corner fails, DRC components for both wheels on that axle need to be replaced due to how the system balances. RS owners, is this a real and common point of concern? I’ve heard that fixes are quite expensive outside of warranty, like $3k per shock, and it’s not totally uncommon… before you just switch to coils. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yeah, DRC issues are definitely something to consider. A few friends with RS5s have mentioned leaks and the costs can stack up quickly.

I’ve heard that if one shock fails, you pretty much have to replace both on the same axle, which is a real pain.

If you’re worried about costs, some people just switch to coilovers. It can be a more affordable long-term solution if you plan on keeping the car.

I think it really depends on how you drive the car. If you’re pushing it hard, the DRC can be nice, but if you’re just cruising, coils might be better.

Definitely do your research on the specific car you’re looking at. Some have had no issues at all while others have had multiple repairs.
