I saw a post in an Audi Facebook group where someone wants to outright trade their 2018 Audi S5 Prestige Coupe (75k miles, Tango Red Metallic exterior, Rotor Grey interior, stock) for my 2018 Audi A5 with a manual transmission (Premium Plus Coupe, 65k miles, Mythos Black exterior, black interior, mechanically stock). I love my manual A5, but the S5 is tempting. I’m just trying to figure out if the extra maintenance and insurance costs for the S5 are worth it. Anyone made a similar switch or have advice?
I think that S5 might have some major repair issues. Get it checked out by a mechanic first. If it’s all good, why not go for it?
Not necessarily. Some people prefer the manual even if it’s a downgrade in engine/trim. Not sure if the B9 S5 had a manual option though.
It definitely wasn’t available as a manual.
A5 to S5 is a big upgrade. Just check the manufacture month; if it’s before June 2018, avoid it due to rocker arm issues.
I rode in an S5 of the same year as mine, and honestly, it felt pretty similar. The cabriolet version is pretty nice too!
Manual B9 A5s are rare. If you love your manual, why give it up?
Sounds like the guy might’ve blown his engine and is looking for a manual now.
Honestly, I think it’s not worth it. The A5 has better maintenance costs, fuel efficiency, and it’s more fun to drive because it’s a manual.
I bet the rocker arms are on the way out on that S5. Always get a pre-purchase inspection before buying.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
