Hello all, hope everyone is doing well. I’m interested in getting my first Audi, especially since I’m coming from a Japanese brand. The thing that scares me the most is the reliability of these vehicles and any potential problems I might encounter. Through my research, I’ve found that the most reliable engines from Audi in the past 10 years are either the 3.0SC or the 2.0TDI. Based on this, I’m looking at getting a 2013-2015 Audi A4 2.0 TDI. I would love to hear from any owners, mechanics, or anyone with general advice regarding issues, maintenance, and reliability on this car. If there’s something else that might be more suitable for me, I’m all ears. Many thanks!
I’ve had a 2014 A4 2.0 TDI for a couple of years now, and it’s been pretty solid. Just keep up with the maintenance, and you should be good.

That’s reassuring to hear. What kind of maintenance have you found to be the most important?
@Valentine
I’d say regular oil changes and keeping an eye on the timing belt. Those are crucial for longevity.
I had a 2013 model, and it was great for the most part. Just watch out for the DPF issues if you drive short distances a lot.

What’s a DPF issue? I’ve heard that term before but don’t quite get it.
@Valentine
DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. It can clog up if you don’t drive the car long enough to burn off the soot. Just something to be mindful of.
If you’re considering the A4, it’s definitely a comfortable ride. But also think about the S4 if you want a bit more power.

I appreciate the suggestion. I’m just a bit concerned about the maintenance costs with the S4 compared to the A4.
@Valentine
That’s fair. The S4 has more performance parts, so it can be pricier for upkeep. Just weigh your options.
I switched from a Japanese car to an Audi too, and I’ve loved the change. Just make sure to find a good mechanic who knows Audis.

Great tip! I’ll definitely look for a reliable mechanic. Any recommendations on what to ask them about?
@Valentine
Ask about their experience with Audis specifically. It helps to have someone who knows the quirks of the brand.
I think the A4 2.0 TDI is a solid choice for a first Audi. Just keep it serviced regularly, and it should serve you well.

Thanks! That gives me some confidence in my decision. I’ll keep everyone’s advice in mind as I look.
